Kingele dam in Gabon

3 flap gates with 24.20m width and 2 ones with 14.30m to heighten a dam of 2m

The dam in Kinguélé Tchimbélé is located on the Mbei river in Gabon and allows the filling of the supply penstocks for 3 turbines of each one 20 m3/s under a head of 125 m. These turbines ensure a power of 57 MW and 60% of the electricity supply of the capital Libreville. In order to improve its production of electricity, the Company of Water and Electricity of Gabon decided to raise the fixed sill of the dam with mobile flap gates.

The carrying out

In partnership with a civil works engineering company, B.P. Etudes carried out the preliminary study and the dimensioning of the project, which consisted to demolish a part of the top of the fixed crest to recreate a sill maintaining the lines of bearings of the flap gates, to recreate the intermediate piers and the pits for the cylinders.

We realized then the whole design until the manufacturing drawings and controlled a part of the manufacture operations on the spot. The construction was completed without interruption of the production. Several floods were to deplore during the installation of the flap gates.

We took part in the start-up of the equipment which took place in 2003.
