Ecoclap, the turbine flap gate
Ecoclap, the turbine flap gate
Developing an energy which one believed to be wasted
The assembly of a series of submersible water turbines inside the hollow structure of a flap gate makes it possible to produce electricity.
The flow which overflow usually can then be turbined and produce renewable energy.
A flap gate with 12m width and 4m height can develop an electric power of 120kW with six turbines.
Applications:
- at the time of the restoration of dams with flap gates
- on sites sensitive to the hydraulic impact
The applications are numerous:
- to turbine compensation water
- over-equipment of existing power plants
- equipment of sites sensitive to the hydraulic impact
The principle
- Water supply by overflow
- realization of a water chamber inside the hollow structure of the flap gate
- use of small-size submersibles water turbines
Operation and advantages
- no hydraulic impact
- regulating of the water level possible even in the event of stopping of the turbines
- low piscicultural mortality
- evacuation of waste by flushing
- easy maintenance
- lower costs than those of a traditional small hydro power plant
Range of use
- heads from 3 to 6 m
- flow from 250 to 500 l/s/m crest
